Reliance TimeOut in association with Big Home Video & Ambience Mall organize "Hotel for Dogs" Fashion Show

Dog Owners hit the ramp with their prized Pet Dogs at Ambience Mall

From correspondents in Haryana, India, 29 Sep 2009 11:01 AM - (www.indiaenews.com)

Why should humans have all the fun this festive and Fashion Season? Reliance TimeOut in association with Big Home Video and Ambience Mall on Sunday Evening hosted a ‘Hotel for Dogs Fashion Show’ welcoming all of NCR’s most stylish pups and dog breeds to strut their stuff on the Dogwalk accompanied by their owners– showcasing the best in style and pedigree pampering.

With active support from Pet Club India.com, Heads Up for Tails, Scooby Scrub and Pedigree, this initiative makes it also first of its kind to be held in a Mall, where the owners had the privilege of walking with their Pet Dogs legally not only inside a Mall but also participating in a Pet Dog Fashion Show. The show gave a host of opportunities to win various gift prizes/hampers and dog accessories. Over 50 Pet dogs in various sizes and breeds walked the ramp from 5.00 pm onwards starting with Medium and Large Breeds, followed by Small Breeds and ending with Mixed Breeds. Pet Lovers were happy to attend the event and were ecstatic at this given opportunity.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Deepinder Kapany, Head of Reliance TimeOut, said, “We are really happy to associate ourselves with this event since it’s an opportunity to unite the dog lovers over a common platform. This event is also a promotional measure for Big Home Video’s movie release whereby we want to showcase that pets are special. We are specially delighted with the Ambience Mall managements vision in making this happen! We believe in community building and there is a strong community around pets itself and hence we found this quite an interesting event to organize and partner

The event was adjudged by individuals who are dog lovers themselves and also qualified and trained Professional Groomers and Animal welfare workers.

A Dog Named Faith

This is called 'Faith'. His name is Faith!

This dog was born on Christmas Eve in the year 2002.  He was born with 3 legs - 2 healthy hind legs and 1 abnormal front leg which needed to be amputated.

He, of course, could not walk when he was born.  Even his mother did not want him.

His first owner also did not think that he could survive.  Therefore, he was thinking of 'putting him to sleep'.  By this time, his present owner Stringfellow met him and wanted to take care of him.
She was determined to teach and train this dog to walk by himself.  Therefore she  named him 'Faith'.In the beginning, she put Faith on a surfing board to let him feel the movements.
Later she used peanut buuter on a spoon as a lure and reward for him to stand up and jump around.  Even the other dog at home also helped to encourage him to walk.
Amazingly, only after 6 months, like a miracle, Faith learned to balance on his 2 hind legs and jumped to move forward. After further training in the snow, he now can walk like a human being

Faith loves to walk around now.  No matter where he goes, he just attracts all the people around him.  He is now becoming famous on the international scene.
He has appeared on various newspapers and TV shows.  There is even one book entitled 'With a little faith' being published about him.
He was even considered to appear in one of Harry Potter movies. His present owner Jude Stringfellew has given up her teaching post.
She plans to take him around the world to preach that: 'Even without a perfect body, one can have a perfect soul'.

Life is the continual demonstration of the Strength of Life.

Animal protection group goes Bollywood

Chandigarh, Nov 3 (IANS) Bollywood sells. A non-profit animal protection organisation is holding an exhibition cum sale here of Bollywood posters of films ranging from the classic 'Aawara' to the recent hit 'Chak De! India' to raise funds for their movement.

People for Animals (PFA) has organised the three-day exhibition cum sale of Bollywood posters named 'Divas Unveiled' here at the Government Museum and Art Gallery from Nov 1 to 3.

There is an exceptional incorporation of posters of both old and new movies, ranging from Hindi films made in 1930s to recent blockbusters.

'PFA conducts various fund raising exhibitions, auctions and competitions throughout the country but this is for the first time that we have organised such an exhibition,' Payal Sodhi, founder trustee of the Chandigarh unit of PFA told IANS.

'Initially it was a difficult task for us to collect these rare posters but after a long hunt, we were able to get these posters from two production houses based in Mumbai. Now, whatever money we collect from this sale will be directly utilized for the activities of PFA,' Sodhi said.

Sodhi added: 'The remaining posters will be sent back to Mumbai. These posters are priced between Rs.2,000 and Rs.7,500.'

There are over 120 posters of yesteryears' blockbusters like 'Barsaat', 'Aawara', 'Boot Polish', 'Azaad', 'Kati Patang', 'Gambler' and recent hits like 'Om Shanti Om', 'Devdas', 'Lagaan', 'Chak De! India' and 'Don'.

'PFA has become the voice for the speechless animals. We are in full support for this fund raiser,' said Ram Niwas, home secretary, Chandigarh after visiting the exhibition.

'A visit to this exhibition is a treat for Hindi movie lovers. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and consider this exhibition an effective way to stimulate people to help in a noble cause,' said Akanksha Sethi, a visitor to the exhibition.

PFA, Chandigarh was adjudged the best PFA unit for the year 2007 for its outstanding work from among 165 PFA units functioning across the country.

PFA here treats around 6,000 animals from the region every year.

'We have two ambulances to cater to Chandigarh and its adjoining areas and these are operational 24x7. Our services are totally free,' Sodhi said.

'We have a well-equipped animal hospital with full time doctors and helpers where we treat animals like monkeys, cats, dogs, snakes, birds, horses, cows and others. We are also running an animal birth control centre and organise animal treatments camps at various places at regular intervals,' Sodhi said.

About their animal birth control centre, Sodhi said: 'We are against the killing of street dogs and at our animal birth control centre, we run a sterilization programm

Mass Dog Wedding

If every dog had its day, it would surely get a chance to say, "I do". To help find a mate for your dog, Ansal Plaza is hosting a mass marriage for dogs on August 30.

Pegged as the first mass dog wedding in India, the venue will have 500 dogs, clad in snazzy bridal outfits, bond with partners for life. The event, scheduled to take place at the Amphitheatre in Ansal Plaza, will also feature speed-dating for pooches.

Dog lovers, meanwhile, are eager-eyed about the event. "For months I had been looking for ways to give my dog a social life," said V K Gupta, a businessman whose pug would participate in the mass canine wedding. The owner of 14 dogs, said, "I got to know about the event through a message forwarded by my friend. Though I dont know what to expect I hope she gets the right mate."

So, is this a publicity stunt for the mall? "It is not a publicity stunt; neither are we trying to break any record. It is part of our corporate social responsibility initiatives, and the purpose is to spread an animal-friendly image of the mall," said Abhijit Das, additional general manager, Ansal Plaza.

Of late, Ansal Plaza has taken over 25 municipal schools across Delhi. After the event, some dogs would be allowed inside the mall with certain conditions escorted by a dog marshal.

Till now, 70 dogs owners have registered for the event, Das said. The registration, for free, opened a few days ago," he said. "We have received a lot of queries and have a week to go before it closes." As per the procedure, a dog-owner sends photographs of the pets and mall officials provide a select choice of the mates to the owner.

"We will speak to the owner and ask what type of mates they require," Das said. "All entries will be carefully screened."

The mall would deploy dog marshals to avoid any untoward incident and has also roped in dog experts to oversee arrangements.

But are Delhiites ready for such an event? Interior designer Priya Kapoor, who owns two English mastiffs and a Rottweiler, said, "I have three male dogs, so I dont require to fret over them." Animal rights activist Geeta Sheshmani, of Friendicoes, said: "Though it is not illegal to organise such an event, it has no cultural significance. People would find it bizarre and unnatural. It would be very uncomfortable for the dogs, too."

But, then, some are already getting the trousseau ready. Shailee Seth, a homemaker with a six-month-old Great Dane, is stocking up on veils. "I have never attended such an event before and I don't know what to expect," she said. "But I definitely want my pooch to look the best."

It's a dog's life, did someone say?

Dogs are seen dressed up for a mass dog wedding in New Delhi, India Saturday where six pairs of dogs were united at a mass wedding ceremony. The event, held for the first time in India, had more than 100 participants, all dressed for the occasion. The selected couples walked the aisle as their delighted owners showered flower petals on the beaming canines. Dog owners say getting suitable partners for their pets is not very easy and social events like these can help in finding the right mate for them.

We were worried. We have been for  the last two years. He was getting senile and seemed quite set to remain the confirmed bachelor, steadily shunning his own kind and compulsively hanging out with ours. And now, early forties was really quite an age.

“He didn’t like Candle or Sprite who I introduced him to last week — both such lovely girls… He’s exactly like you —   fussy!” said Mother suddenly  pointing at me. Taken aback at the unfair comparison, I vowed I was going to get my brother, my dog, married before the end of this year. Luckily, Delhi was going to organise apparently India’s first mass wedding for dogs. Excited, I called the number advertised to get him registered.

Over Enthu Organiser: “Name?”

Sedate Me: “Snoopy.”

Over Enthu Organiser: “Breed?”

Sedate Me: “Daschund.”

Over Enthu Organiser: “Age?”

Sedate Me: “Six… no five!” (Moment of Inferiority Complex).

Over Enthu Organiser: “Most of the registrations are in the age range of two-three, but don’t worryji, there will be older ones too. But do come dressed as you would for a regular shaadi.”

Two days later, a wedding invitation card arrives at our address and Mother stitches him a red and silver jacket. Gold is so passé now, she says. The motley baraat is ready: Mother, aunt, driver, maid, sister (me), and of course, the handsome groom, who’s had a severe panic attack. Three cardamom rusks bring him out of hiding. A brief though trying car-ride later, we reach a sweaty mass of people and pets in the amphitheatre of Ansal Plaza. There are dogs of all shapes, sizes, colours and breeds… I enter him for the best-dressed dog contest; he doesn’t quite make the cut for any other.

We find a good enough spot to network before the contests begin. “We don’t want inter-breeds. He’s a pure Daschund and that’s what I want for him,” Mother warns me. I roll my eyes, “We can’t be that fussy you know. He’s not exactly young!” We’re interrupted by a lady, the editor of a bi-monthly pet magazine and Snoopy’s jacket has caught her eye. We learn later that she’s one of the judges. “She liked him! I’m sure he’ll win!” Mother gushes. Then, two girls, one holding a tiny Pekinese, stride across. I keep my eyes peeled for a potential bride. I spot three Daschunds, but all turn out to be males. Damn.

Eventually, the best-dressed contest begins. “Snoopy! Snoopy Singh!” screeches the young emcee. Bro and I take our positions — I’m dressed in red and silver too — and begin strutting our stuff. “Singh is king! Singh is king!” hollers the audience. “Is his name really Snoopy Singh?” asks the emcee. “Yes,” smiles Sedate Me. “How old is he?” Again that question! “Five”, I mutter.

The ordeal is over and we step off the stage and there are no potential sister-in-laws in sight. I sigh. The results are announced. We haven’t won. As we make our way through, a girl my age stops to admire him. “He’s really handsome, what’s his name?” I tell her. “How old is he?” I tell her. We exchange cards; she’s a journalist too. “You know, we’re looking out for our female and she’s a Daschund too,” she says. My eyes light up. “How old is she?” I breathlessly enquire. “Six.”
