COCKER SPANIEL
A dog with such an adoring gaze…
Who could resist the Cocker Spaniel’s gaze? His slight air of melancholy in reality hides a dog who is full of life. With a very sweet nature and total loyalty, he is a very well-balanced dog. The English Cocker Spaniel is a renowned hunting dog, while his more home-loving American alter ego has a strong personality.
The Cocker Spaniel Story:
Descended from a line of great hunters called Spaniels, which came from the old French language “se coucher”, the English Cocker Spaniel earned his name from his aptitude at hunting woodcock. His smaller American cousin is not a hunting dog anymore.
Major Characteristics of Cocker Spaniels:
Ears as beautiful as they are delicate.
A naturally high quantity of earwax in the L-shaped auditory canal, a skin prone to inflammatory reactions and big floppy ears with fringes which prevent a good air flow into the ear explain why the Cocker Spaniel is prone to otitis.

Maintaining ideal weight.
The Cocker Spaniel is a greedy dog… but his demands must be resisted to avoid excessive weight gain which can result in joint problems, reduced resistance to effort, and coetaneous problems. For a sedentary, sterilised dog, the tendency to gain weight is even more pronounced.

Cataract risk with age.
A common problem in dogs blessed with a relatively long life expectancy, cataracts are the degeneration of the lens which affects the dog's vision and are, revealed as a grey-blue film over the eye.
