Cairn Terrier

The Cairn Terrier has a fox-like expression. This peppy, very hardy little terrier has an abundant shaggy outer coat with a soft downy undercoat. The coat comes in red, brindle, blackish, sand and various shades of gray. Any color except white is acceptable, though dark points (ears, eyes and muzzle) are preferred. Adult coat color is hard to predict from the puppy coat as the color often continues to change for several years. The Cairn Terrier has a compact body, about 14 inches from the forechest to back of the hindquarters. It is short with good bone structure.

Canaan Dog

The Canaan Dog is a sturdy, medium-sized, squarely proportioned dog with a bushy tail carried curled over the back when the dog is alert. The pricked ears have a broad base, rounded tip, and are set high. The head is shaped like a blunt wedge with a shallow, but defined stop. The nose is dark and slightly slanted. The almond-shaped eyes are dark brown with dark rims that harmonize with the coat color. They slant very slightly and should have an alert, inquisitive expression. .

Cardigan Welsh Corgi

The Cardigan Welsh Corgi is a long, low dog (36" to 43" long, all the way from the nose to the tip of the tail) with very, large erect ears, a broad flat skull, and a long, low-set tail (the Pembroke's variety has no tail). The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a powerful, muscular retriever with a slightly wavy, rather short coat that comes in shades of brown, red or tan ranging from a dead-grass-straw color to a deep dark brown with red overtones. The Chihuahua is a tiny dog with an apple-shaped head and a short pointed muzzle. It has round, large, very dark eyes, sometimes dark ruby or luminous in color. The trademark large ears should be held erect. Puppies have a soft spot or "molera" on the top of the skull. The bone usually closes the gap by adulthood. The body is cobby (stout), longer than it is tall, and the tail is sickle-shaped - curled over the back or to the side.

Chinese Crested

There are two distinct varieties of this unusual dog: one is hairless except for its feet, head and tail, and called, not surprisingly, the Hairless; the other is called the Powder Puff. Chinese Shar-Pei

Both heavily wrinkled dogs with large heads and smaller headed dogs with tighter looking skins occur in this breed. There are three coat varieties: horse-coat and brush-coat and a rare bear-coat, which is not recognized by the AKC. Chow Chow

The two most distinctive features of the Chow Chow are its blue-black tongue and its almost straight hind legs, which makes it walk rather stilted. Its dense furry coat is profuse and comes in two varieties, smooth coat and rough coat. Curly-Coated Retriever

The Curly-Coated Retriever is a large, hardy, athletic retriever with a distinctive crisp curly coat. The thick, black or liver-colored coat of tight curls protects the dog from brambles and icy water. Even the small ears, back of the head, neck and tapering tail are covered with little curls. Only the face, hocks and front of the legs are smooth. The ideal Curly should be agile, graceful, and strong, yet elegant. The body is slightly longer than the height at the withers.
